You Don't Need to Be a Social Media Superhero (Especially If You're a Solopreneur)

One channel is already too many.

This is the slap you need.

You don’t have enough time to be managing LinkedIn, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook…. the list goes on!

Do I miss the memo? It's like there's this unspoken rule that to be a "successful" business, you need a presence on every single platform.

You don’t, and this is why.

Your audience is busy—they’re not loitering all over the internet.

It’s true, even if we want to believe the opposite.

24-hour is not enough to juggle work, family and social life. So you need to be choosy and focus on one platform where your audience spends most of their attention — not just spend the most time.

But, how?

Ask questions.

You should have a profile of your ideal customer persona at this stage. What you need to do now is to validate it. And, the simplest way is to ask questions.

3 Questions to Ask Your Audience

  1. If you’re looking for tips or advice about [your niche], where do you usually go first?

This question helps you pinpoint where they actively seek out content related to your coaching niche. Whether they say, “I binge-watch YouTube tutorials,” or “I’m always searching Pinterest boards,” their response will guide your content strategy.

  2. Do you follow anyone online who talks about this stuff?

This is a great way to find out not only who they admire but also where that influencer or brand is active. If they say, “Oh, I love following [name] on Instagram for tips,” or “I always watch [name]’s TikToks,” then now you know exactly where your audience is hanging out.

  3. When you’re online, is there a platform you check every day without fail to find stuff you enjoy?

This focuses on their intentional habits rather than just mindless scrolling. It also helps uncover the platforms they prioritize for seeking out content or staying engaged.

Just like choosing one channel, you don’t have to ask 3 questions. Pick one, listen to their answer and follow-up.

Or, here’s a cool trick: Open your favorite AI bot, set it up for a Q&A to learn more about your target audience, and use the voice chat feature for the discussion.

Then, adapt your content to the platform.

LinkedIn feels like a business seminar—bring your professional side.

Instagram is more like a cozy tea party—pretty visuals and warm vibes work best.

X’s the bustling marketplace of ideas—short, snappy, and straight to the point (though you may want to avoid this one entirely 😅 ).

And TikTok? That’s your chance to shine at the talent show—creativity is key.

We want to avoid showing up to a black tie event in slippers. Comfortable? Sure. Appropriate? Debatable.

If you don’t adapt your tone and style, your message might feel off or get overlooked entirely.

So, stop trying to be everywhere at once.

It's like trying to cook a 5-course meal with one frying pan—it’s not gonna end well. Instead, pick one platform, learn its quirks, and go all in.

The goal isn’t to be the loudest voice across the internet; it’s to be the right voice in the right place.

Remember, your audience doesn’t care if you’re not on TikTok doing dance trends or posting inspirational quotes on LinkedIn. They care about finding value wherever they already hang out. So meet them there—and meet them well.

Oh, and one last thing: showing up consistently beats showing up everywhere.
